Let’s say I have to meet you at a place 10 km away from my home, as a human, I have the capabilities to walk, but also capable enough to drive a car. Would driving a car to reach you (eventually saving time and effort) make me less human compared to completely walking to you?
Another example: Let’s say I ask you to calculate 828 x 903. Would using a calculator make you a bot rather than calculating entirely in your mind?
I faced some backlash on Reddit for using AI-generated text in my post. Please note – AI just refined what I wanted to say and shared my experience in the real world. People started calling things like “you are a bot” or “at least be human to share what is yours”.
By profession, I am not a content creator or writer. I am an engineer who works with solutions. Creating a story is not my expertise, so I pay for a tool to make writing easier for me and express/explain my experience better for everyone to understand. How is my using my skills (of knowing how to use AI, like driving), and my money, make me less human?
People brag about being non-coders and building using coding agents. When we can appreciate people like these, why not appreciate non-writers assisted by AI sharing information, ideas and overall education?
Of course, being able to use a tool and making use of it to make your productivity better says that you are human.
As Ted Lasso mentioned, “Be curious, not judgmental”, I asked questions. I asked questions like:
- Why so much hate that I used AI? If it is available in the world, why not utilize it?
- What exactly made you irritated? The repeated patterns? But did you look at the experience that I shared? AI couldn’t have (out of nowhere) logged into my Reddit and posted it.
- Would my writing in plain English (limited only to what I know) & in my own language make a difference?
It also occurred to me that it might be a Reddit thing. People hide behind anonymity to impose their insecurities on others. Maybe? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
The last post that I made related to “Claude placing an order for Milk using Zepto MCP every day automatically” was written by me and enhanced by AI. No one on LinkedIn or WhatsApp (the only places where I shared) mentioned any negativity. I eventually deleted my post on Reddit to avoid negative people.
People say, “AI is going to take our jobs”. When machines started to rise in the Industrial Revolution, they said, “Machines are going to take our jobs”. A tailor was worried about machines making clothes faster than hand stitching. Humans survived. We adapted. The ones who didn’t adapt, or aren’t willing to move on with time, will experience issues.
